Introducing To…Volk!

“Lightning-charged duo VOLK is a Molotov coctail of high-octane Rock & Roll and Honky-Tonking Country swagger” SoundCloud bio.

“The sonic union of guitarist Christopher Lowe and drummer Eleot Reich, Volk has a no-frills power-duo sound and setup that brings to mind early White Stripes, but with a lot more going on in the sonic margins.” NASHVILLE SCENE

Impresive credential, isn’t it? If you haven’t heard before about these guys you must be eager to listen to them, wait a little longer, When asked Chris about what would like to first listener know about them he replied  “Let me think….volk is like Jack and Meg White tripped acid and believed they were Johnny Cash and June Carter. It’s all the raw power duo energy that aspires to zz/dc snarling riffs and thunderous drums but with the country swagger and charm of Dwight Yoakam and Dolly Parton. Volk is RocknRoll country-fried.”

But if you’re a longtime fan this is a whole other kind of cat guys, is going to blow your mind and left you wanting for more thunderous drums and those noisy riffs that for only two guys they sound massive… Chris let me know yesterday that they already were over 1.6 streams a personal best for the band,  and is easy to understand with this new ferocious and contagious sound, here you have the phenomenal lead single released last Monday Welcome to Cashville out via Romanus Records

Their debut album titled Cashville is due out March 2021 but before thinking about it, they have been working on the video for this track, and from what I have seen in two teaser trailers they have a lot of fun doing it, is going to be ready for next week so stay tuned it’ll rock your faces off. I can’t hardly wait to see it. (Don’t have to wait no more) Here is the video released today

Introducing To… Hazedus!

December 14, 2020.

Well for today I have something unsuall for me, if you read or follow my work already know that I’m not really into Hip Hop or Rap obviously I enjoy it as much as other genres if its good but I’m far from being an expert on it.

The thing is that last Satuardy I was talking with this Rapper raised in Boston and as always I take a good listen to her music and WOW I love it and have to let her know that this wasn’t normal for me but that I really enjoy her sound, lyrics, and the whole thing.

The first track that I listen to (following my work ethic was the newest)  called Cooking

Blow my mind that being a rapper she was only with 2 listeners and 2 followers, you might think that is normal but I think is not she deserves better than that… on her Spotify bio she’s been comper with Lauryn Hill and Queen Latifah that’s a big deal.

Asking about the story behind this track she replyed “Well, I’m actually a lil embarrssed now, on my influence for the track, it was 69 (6ix9ine) and seeing who he his now… but when Ifirst listen to Gummo I like it, but i htought he actually Jack Kodaks flow in the way he rhyme, the melody was very Kodak but he energy was crazy so i was like I can do something like this so that’s when I actyually searched for a 69 type of instrumental and I wrote cooking. The style is really Jamaican”

Well it’s obvious that this girl ain’t debutant only for Spotify but you can find a tone of tunes in her Soundcloud https://www.youtube.com/user/hazedus and here you have a couple

With It

If you’re into Hip Hop or RAP or you want to support this talented artist you can go to her YouTube Channel and enjoy it. https://www.youtube.com/user/hazedus

Best New Tracks 12/10/20

Last playlist update of the year woohoooo time for a vacation- oh wait what’s that? Oh word, nevermind time to go through every single song released this year and rank the 50 best in order nbd.

Crying Mother GIFs - Get the best GIF on GIPHY

Here’s my top 50 tracks of 2019 post if you’re feeling nostalgic. You’ll only find 2019 on here because well, we weren’t around in 2018. However I have painstakingly included all of my top picks from the past decade here if you’re interested.

Anyways, let’s bang- I mean let’s listen to some bangers. Follow our Spotify Playlist for weekly updates:

‘Oblivion’ – Alaska Reid

Alaska Reid has been killing it this year, this being her second song on the playlist of the year. She’s from Montana and currently in LA, and I can’t get enough. Sunday Tuesday George reached out to say it’s great, and even though he’s an a-hole who likes RHCP B-sides, in this case he’s totally right.

‘Greener’ – Charlie Curtis-Beard, PattyBoomba

This song is amazing, and frankly all of Charlie Curtis-Beard’s releases are. Loving this.

P.S. is this enough description for y’all? There’s 17 songs we don’t need novels amirite

‘Feels Right’ – Biig Piig

Real upbeat vibes here, a groover.

‘Freebritney’ – BlondesnamedBritney

This one was a rec from my little brother Pete. Turns out these guys went to my high school (It’s a great day to be a wildkit IYKYK). These dudes show a lot of promise, would expect nothing less from two dudes raised off some chicken shack and Poochies/Mustards/Bills/Hubs/Dengeos probably.

‘i can get emotional too’

I was fortunate enough to have just done an interview with Rachel Brown AKA thanks for coming, which was dope, as they were the artist behind my undisputed quarantine song which I reviewed in detail here.

‘BAWDY’ – Shygirl

This Shygirl EP absolutely slaps. As you can tell from the cover art, it’s some extremely accessible radio pop in the vein of Dua Lipa/Lady Gaga that you can definitely play at your kid’s Bar/Batmitzvah without turning any heads.

‘Cocaine Catwalk’ – BbyMutha

Pour one out for BootyHole-Iesha, the protagonist of BbyMutha’s album Muthaland. This one wasn’t on Spotify for a while and just got uploaded. Of course rap aficionado and even sadder girl UnderCoverSadGirl spotted this one and put it on my radar, great call.

‘U+211E’ – CANDYGIRL

What is up with this trend of making absolute BANGERS that are less than one minute long? Last week we had DAZED AND ABUSED IN BEVERLY HILLS by Amaarae, which is how any waiter who has ever worked in Beverly Hills probably feels, and this week we have this Japanese banger from CANDYGIRL. As a fellow J man myself, love to hear the Japanese bangers with all of my heart.

‘New year, new me’ – SLØTFACE

Just wow, so absolutely gorgeous. This song has been on straight repeat and I just can’t stop. This one is probably sneaking onto my best tracks of the year list if I have anything to say about it (I do, I literally have everything to say about it, so yes, it will be). This song actually originally came out last year around the same time, but as a faster and more upbeat version. Sometimes it takes a song some time in the ether before it can be recreated the way it was supposed to be presented, and I feel that was the case in this instance. This is just an absolutely perfect version. People might not know this but Scarface is a remake of a 30s movie, and the reason you might not know that is, well, the newer version is just… it.

‘Scared’ – Das Body

Norwegian quartet whose entire album absolutely slaps.

‘Final Form’ – Pearly Drops

Found this one on Dopamine Stimulator, good playlist. This album is an instant contender for AOTY for me, everyone I send this to says this same thing- lofi Grimes. As a diehard Art Angel I am obviously all about this. A lot of potential here, excited to see where Pearly Drops go from here.

‘The Little Death’ – The mellows

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a HUGE mellows fan. It’s been an active life project of mine to try via broken Japanese to get an interview with the mellows, and I feel like I might have some good news to share with you soon.

Anyways, the mellows released an EP earlier this year that has been on heavy repeat for me. It’s just a vibe.

‘Take It Back’ – Fordablok, SOPHIE

‘Deserving’ – dreamcastmoe

‘Out of Love’ – Busty and the Bass, Macy Gray, Anna Majidson

‘J’adore’ – jamesjamesjames

‘Animals & Gods’ – The Electric Cinema

This is one of those gorgeous songs that just sticks with you, a happy blend of some early 2000s comfort indie and some modern singer-songwriter. Big fan.

That’s it, don’t forget to follow the official Indie Pong playlist:

Black Star by Apna (Debut EP)

December 11, 2020,

In September 2019 Apna a four-piece rock band from South Lanarkshire, Scotland debut with the single Who’s It Gonna Be? And one month later was released Black Star “favourite lyrics on the ep, it’s about something looking at earth and seeing it’s problems” after that only silences… until today.

We have now their debut EP with 3 new tracks that the band presents in their own words:

Hooked. “Planned to be a b-side, now one of our favourite tro play live and favourite to open with, its about someone keeping you on the hook.”

A Day At The Races. (IMHO their best track so far) “Written mentally while in work, its about making something of yourself”

Where Have The Good Times Gone. “About music and how its evolved to be more computer-generated in a lot of places”

Here the whole EP for our enjoyment.

Take a listen an make your own opinion… (sorry couldn’t find a Youtube link for this one)

Debut Track Of The Day

December 04, 2020, Today we have two artist debuting first

Let’s welcome M.A.W.

Debut Track T-Minus

Today’s Debut Track Of The Day is from Mark Wilkins aka M.A.W. from London. He’s been involved in music as a club promoter, DJ, songwriter for 20 years.

And in his own words

I set out at the start of 2020 to explore electronic soundscapes as opposed to writing songs on an acoustic guitar.

I had no idea how it might take shape and the lockdown happened & I found myself wanting to create something that felt like a ‘proper’ album, like a story or a journey – that ebbed and flowed and almost felt like it could be a soundtrack to something. Like a shit year!! Ha”

And so my music and the songs are like that individually. They have personalities that switch throughout & so the album – The Slow Burn – is warm, ambient, and yet sinister sounding.

I went with T-Minus as it just felt like a nice way to introduce myself and the album. It’s just a fun, upbeat, dark number and everyone I played it too seemed to really like it instantly!”

Well, you only need to listen to it and let us know what you think about it!!!

The whole album Slow Burn is here

Welcome to RENAÉ

Debut Track  Head in the Clouds

RENAÉ is an up and coming artist releasing her debut single today  December 04 2020. RENAÉ has an everlasting passion for music with her sound being heavily influenced by soul and R&B and draws inspiration from artists such as Amy Winehouse, Alessia Cara and Lady Gaga. RENAÉ has been writing for as long as she can remember and is excited to finally share her stories one track at a time.

Head in the Clouds’ mellowed chords, addictive melody, tight rhythms and zesty bass will leave you wanting to call your ex.

I hope not only you can enjoy this track but also support this artist streaming and sharing his work that obviously you can fin in the Playlist Debut Bands (Of The Radar), also Fresh Singles, and Less Than 1,000 Followers.

Metal in the Morning – Soilwork’s “The Nothingness and the Devil”

I’ve been a fan of Soilwork since “Stabbing the Drama” released in 2005 and they’ve continued to be one of the most consistent and catchy bands out there today. They have a brand new EP called “A Whisp of the Atlantic” that is due for release December 4th. One of the singles featured is called “The Nothingness and the Devil” and as usual for this group, it’s really good. The drumming from Bastian Thusgaard is very tight and Björn Strid’s vocals are excellent. Soilwork has been busy cranking out a few different singles this year and the title track on the new EP is sixteen minutes long so can’t wait to hear what they’ve been working on.

Anyhow, check out the music video below and pre-order “A Whisp of the Atlantic” here.

Memo’s Monthly Favorites: November 2020

Hello everybody! Happy first day of December! We are one month away from 2020. HALLELUJAH!!! So I am back with another monthly favorites. November was kind of interesting because I was actually struggling with finding some good music. Luckily good music started rolling in around the halfway point. Let’s talk about some of that good music, starting with the honorable mentions.

Singles Honorable Mentions

Your Old Droog – Pravda: If you’re a fan of lyrical rap check out this posse cut. Your Old Droog got a combination of great underground artists and some legends on this joint. This track has Mach-Hommy, The God Fahim, El-P from Run The Jewels, and Black Thought from the Roots. There was no way this song was going to be bad with this insane line up. Each person has a great verse. I really like the beat as well. It is very chill and classy. Give this track a listen.v

MAVI – SMH: To be honest I am not the biggest MAVI fan, but this single really impressed me. My biggest complaint about MAVI’s music is that he doesn’t differentiate himself from his influences. He usually sounds a lot like Earl Sweatshirt or MIKE, but MAVI switches things up on “SMH”. He sounds very lively. His flows are insane. This man is just rapping his ass off on a soulful beat. I have always been a fan of the beats he raps over. I really hope MAVI can rap like this for an entire project. If he can, then that project will for sure be amazing.

Rina Sawayama – LUCID: So the day after Rina Sawayama got snubbed from a Grammy nomination, she decides to drop a single reminding everybody why she deserves a Grammy. This pop banger has a great danceable beat. I love the bouncy production. I think the lyrics are very cool. Rina lucid dreaming just to see her dream girl is pretty endearing. Although Rina didn’t show off her vocal prowess, her singing is always great. Rina seems to never disappoint.

Album Honorable Mentions

Ligier Countach – Flying Cars: Indie Pong’s very own George Folz made a collaborative album with Sean Lunch called Flying Cars. This is Ligier Countach’s debut album and it’s honestly pretty good. I am a huge fan of aggressive sounding production. We get plenty of that on this album. This instrumental album is very trippy. I love how loud and abrasive each track is. I know that they are currently working on the next album, so I can’t wait to check it out. Go give this album some love. It is worth checking out!

Goodie Mob – Survival Kit: This album is for anybody who misses late 90’s/early 2000’s southern hip hop. It’s been a minute, but Goodie Mob is finally back. In this album, Goodie Mob reflects on America’s political climate at the moment. They rap about serious issues like racism, police brutality, and social injustice. Of course, they sound very mad on every track. The production has that classic southern hip hop feel. They even got Chuck D from Public Enemy and Outkast on the album. Well Andre 3000 and Big Boi are on different tracks, but at least they are on the same album. This all results in some amazing hip hop music. Don’t sleep on this album.

Kali Uchis – Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios): This might not be my album of the month, but it is most certainly the sexiest album of the month. Hell, it might be the sexiest album of the year. Kali continues to prove how versatile she is by dropping her first mostly spanish album. On this album we not only get some of Kali’s best songs, but we also get to listen to some of her best singing in her career. I really like how diverse the track list is. You might get an alternative R&B song on one track and reggaetón on the next track. She is very talented. I honestly think I am falling in love. This is amazing!

Favorite Song of the Month

System Of A Down – Genocidal Humanoidz: I chose this song as my favorite song of the month mostly because of nostalgia. What can I say, I really love this band. I discovered their music after they broke up, so I never thought I would experience new SOAD music. Luckily that is not the case because they dropped two tracks in hopes to bring awareness to the horrible situation going on in Armenia. Even though I liked their other single, “Protect The Land”, I chose “Genocidal Humanoidz” because they deliver their message in an angrier way. This track sounds like a classic SOAD record. They didn’t lose their touch. If you miss SOAD as much as I have, go enjoy their new singles.

Favorite EP of the Month

JPEGMAFIA – EP!: JPEGMAFIA is one of my favorite experimental rappers at the moment. Peggy has been blessing us all year by dropping several singles. After dropping “LAST DANCE!”, which didn’t end up on the EP for some reason, on streaming services, he decided to turn these singles into a short EP. Each track has weird and kooky production. I really like how diverse each song is. There are some mellow tracks and there are also some aggressive cuts. He could be rapping his ass off on a track and singing his ass off on the next track. This EP is currently only on bandcamp, but every song is on every streaming service. Also, every track has a music video, so there is no excuse to not listen to this EP!

Favorite Album of the Month

Aesop Rock – Spirit World Field Guide: I have already reviewed this album on Indie Pong, so check out my article if you want a more thorough explanation on why I love this album. I will say this, there is a reason why people consider Aesop Rock as one of the best lyricists of all time. This album is lyrically dense. I love this album’s concept. I think especially in 2020 we all need a survival guide. Let me not forget to mention that the production off of this album is out of this world. This album has it all! Great album! I recommend it.

These are my monthly favorites! Let me know what you have been listening to!
