New Music Flavor – Uruguay “Whisper”

This last week has been a difficult one – filled with outrage, uprisings, and injustice. Coming in like a slice of relief at the end of this whirlwind week, Uruguay releases “Whisper”. While many artists are pushing their releases back a few weeks, Uruguay stood by their release date knowing that its impact is greater now than initially anticipated.

The song’s impact is not only great because one half of the duo is a woman of color and it’s important to celebrate black artists now more than ever, but also because it’s a beautiful and heart soothing song that makes you feel hope at a time when it’s so desperately needed. The song itself is dynamic, upbeat and sensual. While the lyrics embrace the journey of another time, they’re relevant to the current state of the world, amplifying the song’s power.

“This song started out as an outlet for us and a way to cope with the culture shock of being in LA. But, as time has passed and the world has changed (especially in this past week) the meaning of this song, and releasing this song have taken on a completely new light. Now, “Whisper” is a literal voice in a time of change. We are releasing music that makes us feel good! We are showing up as a proud interracial duo who have been through IT (with a capital ‘I’ ‘T’) and saying that now is the time to not be silenced, but instead we are going to bring the world music. We will never stop trying to spread awareness, self worth, relatability, and authenticity with our music. So we hope you will join us, cause we’re pretty badass :P”

– Uruguay

Uruguay, comprised of Stepha Murphy and Benjamin Dawson-Sivalia, is named for a bakery owner from Uruguay who helped feed them while they were living on the streets in New York. They’re known for their fresh take on indie music, Stepha’s absolutely-haunting-and-I-mean-chilled-to-the-bone vocals, brilliant BRILLIANT production, Ben’s insane stage skills and as fashion icons. One of my favorite Stepha quotes is “People think we’re really hot until they get to know us”. Did I mention that they are models?

See what I mean? Hot. What’s even hotter is their live performance of their recent track “Best Friend’s Place” – watch below. And yes, it’s okay to think they’re singing about you while you watch this. You ARE their best friend. As sexy as they may be, they’re also approachable, engaging and absolute loons. The more you get to know Ben, the more you realize he might actually be a squirrel.

It’s hard to explain the various layers of this duo, it’s best to just witness it for yourself. Tomorrow, the pair will join Indie Pong in an Instagram Live interview to discuss their new release, the state of the world, and probably PEZ.

New Music Flavor – Kyle Nicolaides “Sedona”

Today, Kyle Nicolaides graced us with his first independent track in years, “Sedona”, shedding a ray of light in this currently dark and strange wash of days we’ve all been lost in.

Serving as aloe for the soul, this track is as self-aware and honest as it is beautiful. Of the song, Kyle says “I somehow managed to get this out of my head & into a recorded format, now maybe you can find a small place for it in your heart. Here’s to big beautiful new beginnings.” At a time when we need it most, Kyle shares a piece of his poetic soul.

I find myself again // After years of being inked in someone else’s pen

It’s so beautifully written, you catch that “aha” moment of understanding exactly what he’s saying, even though your journey may be different.

If this wonderfully Greek name sounds familiar, you might recognize him from Beware of Darkness, The Martyrs, or even The Cosmic Revelators. An oldie but goodie, listen to “Howl” for some classic throwback Kyle vibes.

Now spending time on his solo career and personal growth, he embodies everything that drew me to the music industry to begin with – using the power of music to heal both the self and others.

I’m running on dreams // And I’ve got all I need

In his own words, Kyle is “off somewhere smiling at a flower” – as a reformed emo kid with a flower in my hair, it’s no wonder I’m drawn to this artist. There are few other people I can say have truly been through such growth as both an artist and as a human. He understands discipline and the importance of listening to what your body and heart are trying to tell you, two things that are quite obvious once you hear his music.

“Sedona” is one of those songs where it feels almost tragic to put my own words against it as it clearly speaks for itself. Hear from Kyle Nicolaides himself tomorrow on the Indie Pong Instagram account for an IG Live interview at 3pm PST.

9 New Music EP’s For You

Honestly last Friday I couldn’t find at least 9 EP’s but during this week were released some others, there for we now have 9 EP’s to present

Don’t forget to visit   https://indiepong.com/2020/04/14/12-new-songs-this-week-16/  already updated with more than 370 tracks released only this month days and growing. Also checkout the new lineup for https://indiepong.com/2020/04/14/12-new-songs-this-week-16/ also I have change my own rules here (now I’m going to have 48 tracks each week, only new 12  and the last 3 weeks also added in this way the artista/bands are going to be out there more time for all of us and at the end a Playlist with 48 tracks is around 3 hours) now we’re ready let’s go to this new EP’s released during last Friday and this week:

1 Emmett Kai Marigold New York Indie pop / Wait I know that if you’re following this articles this guy was already at the beginning of April: true and this time he only added one more track

2 Hayley Williams Petal For Armor II Well this girl doen’t need introduction you know her pretty well and she has been releasing tracks constantly all year long and yesterday release the newest Dead Horse so between two EP’s she’s already 10 tracks (an album)

3 Vero  Heaven on Earth Stockholm Today this trio with their intoxicanting sound  release their fourth track Spin that with the previous three made up EP Indie Pop / Alt Pop And as they said be ready becuase this is only the beginning because they’re already working in their debut album  probably e at the end of this year or early of next

Also Clara not only share with us all this info she also wanna share this Playlist that works as their inspiration, so if you want  to know this mix of songs this girls enjoy here is the link.

4 Incubus Trust Fall (Side B) Yes this guys are back and last Friday release this EP that surely is going to please even the very first Incubus fans. This sounds more like the best of (maybe I let myself go to far with this but…) than a normal EP.

5 Beverly Kills Elegance in a State of Crisis  This might be my favorite EP in this 9, they’re from Sweden and their post punk sound is fantastic, weird they still are in the Playlist #LessThan1000Followers but I believe they are not going to be there for long.

6  Primordial Tides The Backyard Sessions USA Another band with less than 1,000 followers, If you enjoy instrumetal music with good metal riffs, if you feel ok with progressive rock (or metal) this guys are for you

7 Israel Nash Topaz Folk from USA a beautiful 5 track work that is really the A side of the upcoming new album. His message “I hope this tunes can be a friend to you as well in these crazy and uncertain times. Enjoy! Hang in there, be inspired, then insipere”

8 Sonny Elliot Under Covers From UK this brothers deliver this EP in 2018 but for some reason (mistake) Spotify says that was released this past Mondey (something went wrong)

But thanks to this mistake you can listen not only this work but their newest single New Moon also a thing of beauty  released last month

I asked them what their doing right now and they answer this “All we want to focus on is writing and releasing, we have a picture in our heads of the music we want to make and the level we want to be at. We plan on releasing a string of singles over the next couple years, developing our sound and growing our audience. We’ve released everything we have done through our own label, so maybe that’s something we can develop as well.”

And about their favorite artist “Our favourite artist is hard to choose, we have both grown up liking such a variety of music and it’s all helped to come together and create our vision. I would personally say Elliott Smith is my favourite, just from a songwriting point of view I don’t think there is anybody better. His lyrics, melodies and instrumentation can be just scary genius at points. He’s half made me want to give up at points he’s so good.”

9 Natalie Shay Naked UK The 21 years old Indie Pop singer/songwriter  present last Friday her debut Ep and if you enjoy Pop music this is definitely for you.

Fresh Singles Week 17

Wow, I’m struck by the amount of new music that we keep reciving daily, I thought that in these umprecedented times maybe we’re going to be suffer from a lack of music but fortunately that hasn’t been the case.  Therefore let´s go and take a look to some of the new music released today

1 Bright Eyes Forced Convalescence second single of their upcoming new album that hasn’t been detailed, here the awesome track released a few hours ago and  surely is going to be one of the favorites for the fans (and no fans too)

2 Deradoorian Monk’s Robes  you got to be kidding me, this girl release Saturnian Night back in March a fantastic track over 7 minutes and I think this has to be the best track  on the upcoming album Find The Sun (due out September 18) and then she release  today the second single and…maybe is better than the lead single (at least equally good)

3 Bill Nace Part 8 an instrumental and experimental rock this is the third track part of the upcoming album Both 8 tracks work set to release May 22 this guitar player has work with Thurston Moore but maybe you didn’t need to know this to find something familiar in their music, so if you enjoy Moore recent work this one is going to be a weird bliss  of noise and music maybe not at the same time but almost.

4 Man Man On The Mend also third single for the band and their upcoming album Dream Hunting in the Valley of the In-Between out May 01 is another experimental rock / alternative that is so fun to listen (an easy much listenting experience than the previus track in this list)

5 Kooba Tercu Fair Game this is the second track  part of the upcoming album Prot Tekno set to reléase May 22 and if you’re thinking this guy only is sharing experimental rock (krautrock / noise / psychedelic) I only can say it’s not my fault (but I love it) this is the way this tracks have been released I know seems to be intended. Anyway is an spectaluar track and I’m really stoked about this album.

6 Caleb Landry I Dig Your Dog Another highly expected album The Mother Stone out May 01 a psycho pop or indie rock work that bring to my mind the album by King Tuff The Other back in 2018 (part of my Top 100 Albums that year) and this one seems to be in the same way skyrocketing the charts (I mean is a debut album but is incredibly good so far)

7 Esther Rose Blue On Blue After her last year album You Made it This Far this contry / folk Singer present last month her lead single My Favorite Mistake and today release a Nick Lowe’s cover Blue on Blue.

8  Westerman Your Hero Is Not Dead today Will Westerman presents his fourth and is the one that gives name to the upcoming album out June 05 This one a sad and emotive track.

9 Drab City Troubled Girl from third single of their upcoming album Good Songs For  Bad People in their own words “It’s one our favorites from the new record” Well so far I agree and you?

10 The Cool Greenhouse Life Advice second single part of their self debut album alternative / post punk They have to be from the UK fantastic sound can’t wait for this album!!!

This is the whole Playlist for #FreshSingles already getting closer to 400 tracks

Enjoy it and stay tune if you want to be updated with new hot and cool artista.

Debut Bands (in earnest)

Happy 4-20 to you’all this is another post about Debut Bands and the newest additions is one that I really fall in love with their sound and their history and wanna share it with you.

in earnest put me under  debut  single released last Friday by this UK  trio aged between 25-31, and in their own words  “we’ve found that a lot of people find it hard to pin a genre on us. The nearest we can describe it is ‘sad indie’ – we sing a lot about mental health and like to encourage conversations around that topic”. This is part why I already love them (in my case I have a son that suffer with depression so I have a clear idea about mental health issues)

Some of the bands that ha part of their influences are  Phoebe Bridgers, Boygenius, Elliot Smith, Dodie, Paramore among others.

Currently they’re working in new music “two of us live together, so we’ve been able to do some music while in lockdown. We’re currently working on a collaboration video with all three of us in! We’ve also been doing yoga, reading lots of books and doing live-streams.

I want to thank Sarah for sharing this words with us and this is the track that you can find also in Playlist #LessThan1000Followers and #FreshSingles

This is the Spotify Playlist that will be updated every time I find a “new band” already 26 of them.

Less Than 1,000 Followers Week 16

This are my TOP10 tracks added yesterday and today from bands #LessThan1000Followers but take a step back first to my Playlist 100 Underground Tracks 2019 please.

Last year I work out a Playlist called 100 Underground Tracks 2019 and at the TOP 10 was from 1 to 10 Cagework  (just released two new songs at the end of last month), Charmides and Ugly Mothers (both debut singles, so far the only tracks for them), Kills Birds and Black Leather Jacket (both an absolutely awesome debut albums) Lake Acacia (with new track released back in January) Right Hand Left Hand (Zone Ruoge album), NOISY (two new singles this year), Shade (with the debut EP from November) and Shadows Of A Silhoutte (new track Worthless released this year) all this bands were also part of Playlist Less Than 1,000 Followers.

Here the whole Playlist

Why I’m talking about this? It’s easy

1 The first reason is because today Saturday April 18 Shade also shared their new single Neverdie in their own words “We’he been working on it for about 4 years now since we were kids n it’s our most we’ll know song yet, it’s never released “ until today.

undefined

And they keep going “the song is about rock and roll music and how it’ll Never die, it’s got a lot of quotes to other we’ll know rock songs there and we give the name sally the meaning of rock and roll music as may bands have used the name in their songs so we give it a meaning”

Here the link for the song a truly catchy  with a warm melancholic that you’re going to listen over and over and over again until you be satisfied. I’m not sure if it’s only me but this track makes me think in Oasis….What about you?

And also the debut EP from last year

2 And the second reason is that yesterday was released the new single by Pint + Blister Dysthymia and they were at 11 in the 100 Underground Tracks 2019 and it feels really good to see this bands growing and moving forward even in this adverse times. The track is all I can expected!!!

3 Backseat Vinyl Bad Trip another band part of the 100 Underground Tracks 2019, also yesterday delivered this track sound fantastic and I’m happy for them, they are now almost 900 followers so their days in this Playlist are almost over, congratulations guys!!!

4 Bugs TNick Gowland also yesterday a Brand new band born,, well not really true but cerntantly release their debut single that it’s promising to say the least with a beautiful female voice that as a mermaid enchant our ears. (They’re curruntly working in the video for this track so no Youtube link yet)

5 The Swell Fellas Placebo this is the new track by our stoner rock friends also full of psychedelia  a monster track over 8 minutes mark a thing to sit and enjoy (headphones preferred)

6 VERO Heaven on Earth more female vocals for our enjoyment know with this girl trio from Stockholm and this title track from their upcoming EP with 3 more new track droping April 22 great indie pop / alt pop.

7 Tyrants TMouthful Another band that had been added to the Playlist Debut Bands (Of The Radar) back in February 21 released their debut single and yesterday their second track they’re from the Black Country with a cool riffs something  between punk and alternative rock that it’s addictive as hell.

8  Bullet Girl Heatred Irish post punk band emerging stronger after been out there for a while now founding their own identity and sound.

9 The Arthurs Void from Rotterdam Amsterdam this alternative/indie rock band is coming back for their somophore album Leave This Town with this their third single second this year and is hard to resist to this riffs and that vocals in the background creating such an dreamlike atmosphere.

10 FLTY BRGR GRL Slowdance talking about dreaming stuff this couple of girls from Olso Norway that I’ve follow since last year that deliver their debut single with Be My Boy in November 08 and yesterday was the turn of this new track released with this video and as they said “a song about a crush” enjoy it!!!

This is the Spotify Playlist where you can find a more than 1,000 bands as good as this 10.

New Music Flavor – Pokey LaFarge “Rock Bottom Rhapsody”

Digging into my Sonoma County roots this week with Pokey LaFarge’s new album Rock Bottom Rhapsody. This well-dressed fella is just as rockabilly and western swing in fashion as he is in song – it’s hard to say whether his sharply dressed outfits or sing-song blues will make you swoon first. As said by St. Louis Magazine, he’s “almost as famous for his personal style as he is for his music”.

Rock Bottom Rhapsody has me dreaming of laid back summer BBQ’s and casual weekend picnics – social activities that will no longer be taken for granted when they return. “Bluebird”, front runner off the album,  is perfect for a little indoor jig in the rain today, or for an easy Sunday morning while making breakfast. The song is only improved by its video, which portrays LaFarge as Los Angelese Detective Frank Lux in “The Hunt For Blue Bird”.

I became of fan of LaFarge with his 2015 “Something In The Water”, and quickly fell in love with his sound when I saw him perform live at LaguMiniAmphitheaterette at Petaluma’s own Lagunitas Brewing Company. A small, but special venue that has hosted Charles Bradley, The Growlers, Man Man, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, King Tuff, Thundercat, and a never-ending list of impressive acts.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention his Jack White project from 2012’s Blunderbuss, “I Guess I Should Go To Sleep”. This track is the only one on the record in which White plays the drums. Of the experience of working with White, LaFarge said “There’s so much clarity in Jack’s music. When he sings, the voice and the music are true. I started working with him back in 2011, just before the recording of Blunderbuss. He basically wrote and arranged I Guess I Should Go To Sleep before our eyes, right there in the studio. We did maybe two or three takes at the most“.

Though seemingly a songbird from another generation, LaFarge is no stranger to social media and the live stream game during these quarantine times. His next Instagram Live performance will be 6pm PST tonight.
